Bulldogs shut out Belfast in Gardiner Gup semi-final

Edinburgh, Scotland – The Hamilton Bulldogs defeated the Belfast Giants 7-0 in the semi-final of the Gardiner Cup. With the win, the Bulldogs will now play the Toronto Marlies in the Championship game tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. EST.

While on the power play, Ryan White opened the game’s scoring at 7:02. White received the puck from Ryan Russell before rifling a shot past Belfast starting goaltender Stephen Murphy.

12 seconds into the middle stanza the ‘Dogs scored their second goal. P.K. Subban blasted a shot from the point. On the way to the net, the puck bounced off Russell’s stick and deflected over the shoulder of Murphy. Brock Trotter gave the Bulldogs a 3-0 lead at 9:46. Mikael Johansson fired a shot that was saved by Murphy. Trotter grabbed the loose rebound and shovelled the puck past Murphy for the goal. Russell added his second goal of the game at 14:43. Johansson sent a pass to Subban, who blasted a shot towards the net. Russell tipped the puck past Murphy to make the score 4-0 for Hamilton 14:43.

Robert Mayer replaced Cedrick Desjardins at the start of the third stanza.

At 2:45 of the third period, the ‘Dogs took a 5-0 lead. White fed a pass to Johansson, who snapped a one-timer shot that beat Murphy through the five-hole. The goal was Johansson’s and White’s third points of the game. The ‘Dogs took a 6-0 lead at 10:25. Chad Anderson took a slapshot from the point that bounced around in front of the net before trickling past Murphy. Trotter added Hamilton’s seventh goal of the game at 15:55. Desharnais sent the puck to Trotter, who raced towards the net before snapping a shot past the glove of Murphy and into the back of the net.

The Bulldogs will play in the Championship game of the Gardiner Cup tournament tomorrow against the Toronto Marlies at 12:30 p.m. EST.
