McMaster Marauders’ quarterback Kyle Quinlan has been named the Pioneer Petroleums Ontario University Athletics male athlete of the week for the period ending Oct. 5.
Quinlan of South Woodslee, Ont., contributed to all six McMaster touchdowns as the Marauders upset the No. 2 nationally-ranked Western Mustangs by a score of 42-35 before a crowd of 9,217 on Oct. 3 in London. The two-time defending Yates Cup champion Mustangs had not lost a homecoming game since 2002, when current Western head coach Greg Marshall was the head coach at McMaster.
The second year quarterback completed 17-of-22 passes for 272 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 72 yards and three touchdowns in the victory. Quinlan is also the OUA Football Offensive Player of the Week.
The OUA female athlete of the week is field hockey player Brienne Stairs of the Guelph Gryphons.
Stairs, a third-year bio-medical student from Kitchener had a sensational weekend for the Gryphons field hockey team. She scored eight goals in three games, including two hat tricks. Stairs has four hat tricks this season. She leads OUA in scoring with 23 total goals. This is her second Pioneer Petroleums Female Athlete of the Week award in three weeks.
