Houston, TX – The Hamilton Bulldogs were defeated 4-3 by the Houston Aeros in a shootout on Tuesday evening. The ‘Dogs extended their point streak to nine games and remain the only team in the AHL to be undefeated in regulation.
The Aeros scored the first goal of the game at 2:44 of the opening period. Jean-Michel Daoust sent a pass to Nathan Smith, who hammered a one-timer shot that sailed past Hamilton starting goaltender Cedrick Desjardins and into the back of the net.
The Bulldogs tied the game 1-1 at 12:39 of the first frame. Ryan White won a faceoff in Houston’s zone sending the puck to Yannick Weber, who was stationed at the right point. Weber released a wrist shot that sailed over the right shoulder of Houston starting goaltender Wade Dubielewicz. Hamilton took a 2-1 lead at 10:54 of the final period. P.K. Subban collected the puck at the point before skating past two Houston players and sending a pass to Tom Pyatt, who was positioned in front of the net. Pyatt rifled a shot that beat Dibielewicz through the legs.
Robbie Earl tied the game 2-2 at 11:41 of the third stanza. Earl received a pass from Justin Falk before sending a shot towards the net that bounced of Desjardins’ pads and into the net.
White regained the Bulldogs’ lead at 14:21 of the final period. White received a pass from Shawn Belle before firing a shot that squeaked through Dubielewicz’s pads and over the goal line. Ryan Russell also earned an assist on the goal.
Jon DiSalvatore tied the game for Houston at 16:22 of the third period. Colton Gillies sent a pass to Milroy, who snapped a shot on net. Desjardins made the save but could not control the rebound, allowing DiSalvatore to whack the loose puck past the goaltender and into the net.
For the second straight game, neither team could score in the extra period, sending the game to a shootout. Pyatt and Brock Trotter scored for the ‘Dogs but Daoust, Chad Rau and Gillies replied for the Aeros to win the game.
