The McMaster men’s soccer team defeated the No. 10 Carleton Ravens 1-0 in their third consecutive shootout of the playoffs in the Ontario University Athletics semi-final at Varsity Field on the University of Toronto campus.
McMaster advances to the OUA gold medal game Sunday (Nov. 8) at 2 p.m. for the first time since 2000.
McMaster’s second year goalkeeper Matthew Grant, (Brampton) stopped three of the four shots in the shootout. McMaster’s shootout goals were netted by Anthony Costa (Stoney Creek), Monkgogi Moseki (Hamilton) and Omar Nakeeb (Mississauga).
In Carleton’s fourth penalty kick of the shootout, Carleton OUA East All-star Peter Manginas (Belleville) hit the left post to give McMaster the victory.
McMaster will compete for the OUA gold medal on Sunday (Nov. 8) at 2 p.m. at the Varsity Centre.
McMaster will play the winner of the second semi-final between the No. 1 University of Toronto and the University of Western Ontario. By virtue of its appearance in the OUA final, McMaster will travel to Trinity Western University (Langley, B.C.), Nov. 12-15 to compete in the Canadian Interuniversity Sports championship.
