The Mohawk men’s basketball team completed first semester play with a win, but the women lost in Ontario Colleges Athletic Association action at the Fennell Gymnasium on Wednesday (Nov. 25).
The men’s team improved its record to 4-5 with a 78-75 decision over the Niagara Knights (2-4).
Tanner Lane (Guelph Bishop Macdonnell) scored 23 points to lead Mohawk. Ryan Carrafiello (St. Thomas More) had 18 points and nine rebounds, while Alex Reis (Cathedral) had 16 points and added six boards. Niagara led 37-36 at the half.
“It was a good team effort, we never gave up,” said Mountaineers’ head coach Brian Jonker. “It’s very nice to finish the first half of the season with a quality win.”
The Mohawk women lost 58-54 to Niagara. The Knights led 35-28 at half time. Tracy Lehane (Cambridge Southwood) scored 10 points for the Mountaineers (1-6) while Michelle Abella (St. Jean de Brebeuf) added nine. Niagara’s record went to 3-2.
