Rowe, Patterson roll 802 triples


Catherine Rowe has rolled the first 800 triple by a Hamilton woman with an 802 (234, 300, 268) bowl out for her Thursday night league at Burlington Bowl. She holds the Hamilton record for highest triple with a 795 (237, 300, 258) in March 2008 and last season captured high triple for the women with 780 (278, 234, 268) in March along with a 757(251, 289, 217) in October 2008.

Rowe also holds the women’s high average record at 217. She was voted the World Bowling Writers 1991 Female Bowler of the Year.

Sean Patterson rolled his 802 (278, 259, 265) at Prime Time Bowling, then added a 268 for a 1,070 set. A week later he fired the fourth perfect 300 game of the season in a 1,008 (205, 269,300, 234) set. Five days later the first sanctioned honour score was fired at Splitsville Centre as Travis Cauley, 21, finished with 20 consecutive strikes in a 788 (204, 279, 300) triple in junior action.

Earlier this season, he fired a 300 at Prime Time and a 299 in a tournament in Mississauga. Sam Gualtieri has an unsanctioned 298 at Splitsville. Dave Dyson at Skyway Lanes started his third game with 11 strikes for a 299 game and 752 (223, 230, 299) triple.

In Jonarc Classic play at Skyway, super singles are Scott Grunau, 289, for a 968 set, Steve Smith, 283 and 278, Mike Ellis, 278, Ryan Dickenson, 268, Roy Ward, 267 for a 939 set, Bill Lishinski, 259, Jack Luke and Cory Davies, 258, Phil Gater, 257, Jerry Wicks, 255, John Cherriere, 253 and Art Oliver Jr., 258 for a 966 set.

In Westinghouse action, Nobby Herchenroder blasted triples of 700 and 693, Doug Stickney, 665, Ed Margueratt, 652 and Walter Downey, 651. Fine singles were Wendell Harrison, 268 and 236, Downey, 243, and Doug Stickney, 237. Barb Hollands reports a 729 (258) by Brent Andrecyk and a 237 by Klaus Herchenroder. In Brightside play, Paul Jones, 62, smashed a 789 (257, 265, 267) with 27 strikes, and Bill Braid, 667 (237).

June Najbor reports for the Skyway juniors’ Billy Craig, 13, had a 258, Nick Murphy rolled 234, Christine Johnston, (Miss “T”), 14, scored 223, and Brett Starrs, 15, a 204. Laurie Bailey, 14, 130 average, daughter of Sean, rolled her first ever 500 and 200 with 561 (152,197, 212). With Klaus, Nobby, Marcus and Brenda all bowling good lately, another Herchenroder doing well is Dylan, 16, son of Nobby and Brenda, with games of 245, 148 and 226 for a 619 triple

In VSL play, Ed Margueratt raised his average to 208 with a 686 (227, 214, 245) effort while Joan Tidey and Jim Margueratt both spared the 6 – 7 split.

Hamilton Tenpin Trivia: Win Green, a Hamilton police officer, at his first American Bowling Congress tournament in Knoxville Tenn., in 1970, fired a 701 (245, 235, 221) triple and 1,938 for nine games, a 215 average. He rolled a 300 game in 1985 at Hamilton Mountain Bowl and his brother, Bob, rolled the first ever 300 at Skyway Lanes in 1960 in a practise outing.
