Monsters take bite out of Bulldogs

The Hamilton Bulldogs will look for a measure of revenge tonight (Wednesday) in their rematch with the Lake Erie Monsters. On Monday the Monsters stole a 3-2 in overtime decision from the Bulldogs in an American Hockey League game played at Copps Coliseum.

Tonight’s game starts at 7.30 p.m.

Marty Sertich scored the overtime marker for the Monsters, who ended the ‘Dogs four-game winning streak, at 3.58 of the extra session.

A pair of power play goals in the first period – Mikael Johansson at 3.28 and Brock Trotter eight minutes later – gave Hamilton a 2-0 lead until the second period. That’s when Ryan Stoa went to work, cutting the margin to one goal at 4.57.

At 9.23 of the final stanza Stoa wiped out Hamilton’s lead to send the game into overtime. Sertich ended the game with a power play marker.

Hamilton goalie Cedrick Desjardins faced 30 shots while his counterpart, Tyler Weiman, handled 29.

Attendance was 2,380.
