Two Mohawk men medalled in their respective singles sections at the Cambrian Open Badminton Tournament in Sudbury over the Jan. 15-17 weekend.
The event featured mostly Ontario Colleges Athletic Association players, but included several others, such as veteran player David Tran, who defeated Mohawk’s Chris Hong, 21-17, 21-16 in a close Men’s ‘B’ Flight championship match.
Hong, despite limited practice time, was very competitive against his experienced opponent.
Meanwhile, Mohawk’s Pantho Datta won the Men’s ‘C’ Flight title, defeating Jouce Stephanovski of London Fanshawe, 21-17, 21-11.
Mohawk will compete in the West Regional Championships at Seneca College, Feb. 5-6. The top players in the regionals advance to the OCAA badminton championships at St. Clair College in Windsor, Feb. 19-20.
