The Hamilton Bulldogs shut out the IceHogs 5-0 on Wednesday evening (Jan. 27) in Rockford.
Brock Trotter recorded two goals for the fourth time this month while Matt D’Agostini and Max Pacioretty each earned an assist in their first game back with the American Hockey League ’Dogs. The shutout for Curtis Sanford was the ‘Dogs sixth road shutout of the year, a franchise road record in one season.
The Bulldogs opened the game’s scoring at 7:49 of the first period. D’Agostini received a pass from P.K. Subban before firing a shot towards the net. Greg Stewart redirected the shot past Rockford goaltender Corey Crawford.
Hamilton took a 2-0 lead at 11:36 of the second stanza. Tom Pyatt sent a pass to Grant Stevenson, who was positioned in the slot. Stevenson rifled a shot that sailed over the right shoulder of Crawford, off the crossbar and into the net. Trotter added a third goal two minutes later. Subban sent the puck to Trotter, who fired a shot that bounced off the blocker of Crawford.
Trotter’s second goal came at 1:26 of the final frame. Pacioretty took a pass from David Desharnais and shot on net. Crawford made the initial save but could not control the rebound, which Trotter whacked for the goal.
Crawford was replaced by Joe Fallon after the score.
The Bulldogs completed the scoring at 14:15. Shawn Belle received a pass from Ryan Russell before hammering a shot that was stopped by Fallon. While stationed in front of the net, Andrew Conboy batted the loose puck out of mid-air and into the net.
Hamilton outshot Rockford, 31-25 before 2,055 onlookers.
The Bulldogs will meet the Milwaukee Admirals at 8 p.m. tomorrow night (Thursday) in Milwaukee.
