Bradley bids adieu as Mohawk takes volleyball finale

They dropped the first set, but the Mohawk men’s volleyball team rallied for a 25-27, 25-17, 25-19, 25-21 victory over Fanshawe in the Mountaineers last game of the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association regular season at the Fennell Gymnasium on Wednesday (Feb. 17).

Cameron Henschel was the top gun for the Mountaineers with 12 kills, two aces and six blocks. Mo Sulaiman contributed 16 kills, two aces and one block and Ian Cameron had 13 kills, one ace and two blocks. Mohawk finished the regular campaign with a 10-6 record and snapped a two-match losing string. Fanshawe fell to 7-9.

The match was the final one for Mohawk head coach James Bradley, who has relinquished reins of the squad to one of his former star players, Matt Schnarr. Bradley coached the team for seven years, posting an outstanding regular season record of 70-10. He won two OCAA gold medals, one silver and one bronze, as well as a Canadian Colleges Athletic Association bronze medal.

Bradley, who was OCAA Coach of the Year in 2003-4, coached four All-Canadians.

The Mountaineers now get ready for a qualifying playoff game this Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Fennell Gym against Trent University.
