The Mohawk Mountaineers women’s volleyball team completed its Ontario Colleges Athletic Association regular season with a 25-18, 25-21, 25-16 victory over the Fanshawe Falcons at the Fennell Gymnasium on Wednesday (Feb. 17).
Mohawk finished its schedule with a 15-5 record, while Fanshawe wound up 12-8.
Jenna Gignac had 13 kills for the Mountaineers. Lauren Aquilina had nine kills, two service aces and two stuff blocks and Jenn Knowles had seven kills and one ace.
Mohawk coach Sean Pellow said it was a good win, especially considering a couple of first string players were out of action.
“We were down our starting Libero and one of our starting middles, said Pellow. “We put a couple of quieter kids in, who haven’t had a lot of playing time and we didn’t see the level of play go down. That’s significant for Saturday and hopefully we can carry that momentum in.”
Saturday (Feb. 20) is a qualifying playoff game against the Seneca Sting from the East Region. It starts at 6 p.m. at the Fennell Gym.
