Mohawk Mountaineers closed out their most successful men’s Ontario Colleges Athletic Association basketball season in recent years with an 83-70 victory over the St. Clair Saints at the Fennell Gym on Saturday (Feb 20).
The game had little impact in the final standings with Mohawk solidly in fifth place with an 11-7 record and a playoff spot while the Saints were eliminated the night before.
Ricky Heath was on fire for Mohawk with seven three-pointers for a team high 21 points. Heath was supported by Jerome Smith with 13 and Nick Fadayel and Tanner Lane with 11 and 10 points respectively.
For the Saints, as in the entire season, it was OCAA league scoring champ David Korenic with 25 while Jamaal Thompson with 11 and Corey Cole with 10 helpers aided the cause.
Mohawk, which led 35-29 at the half, will play on an Eastern opponent’s court in the first round of the OCAA playoffs next weekend.
