Women Mountaineers let final basketball win slip away

St. Clair Saints rallied late from a seven-point deficit to defeat Mohawk Mountaineers, 67-60, in Ontario Colleges Athletic Association women’s basketball at the Fennell Gymnasium on Saturday (Feb. 20).

The Saints trailed 58-51 with about five minutes remaining but parlayed excellent free-throw shooting and defense down the stretch.

Sarah Stevens led the Saints with 21 points as St Clair responded to a 33-24 halftime deficit. Other Saints in double figures were Jenae Grayer with 13, Katie Goodburn with 11 and Sara Levesque with 10. The Mountaineers’ leading scorers were Michelle Abella with 19 and Casey Boggs with 18, but Mohawk squandered many opportunities from the charity stripe which cost them in the end.

Mohawk finished its regular season with a 2-12 record.
