Stoney Creek’s Michael Felinczak of the Mountain Athletic Club’s 14-under boy’s team was recognized with the Ontario Volleyball Association’s Award of Excellence medal on the weekend.
The awarded is presented annually to one team member at the provincial championships for on and off court leadership, playing performance, and sportsmanship.
The MAC boys won the Silver Medal in Division 2 of the 14U Provincial Championships held at RIM Park in Waterloo recently. Seeded ninth overall going into the tournament, MAC was defeated in pool play by London Forest City and the Niagara Rapids, 2-1 in games, but went on a roll to defeat the Aurora Stingers, Brampton Selects, Waterloo TIgers Black, Toronto West, and the Cobourg Breakers.
In the quarter finals, MAC continued to dominate defeating the Markham Stingers Black followed by winning the semi finals over London Forest City Green, 2-0. MAC pushed it to the limit but lost to the King City Wolfpack, 2-1, in the final match.
The MAC team is coached by Duncan Gillespie of Hamilton, Senan Farrell of Hamilton and Andrez Felinczak of Stoney Creek.
Team athletes include: Felinczak; Mount Hope’s Christopher Palios; Binbrook’s Jordan Elwood; Dundas’s Daniel Friedland and Ben Kenel; Hamilton’s Anthony Stubbs, Brandon Koklis, Ife Igwe, Matthew Passalent, and Patrick Wilusz; Burlington’s Scott De Jong; and Oakville’s Connor Gould.
