Layard gets nod from Ontario Volleyball

layardA Campbellville athlete was recognized at the Ontario Volleyball Association’s Provincial Championships recently.

Briana Layard of the Mountain Athletic Club (MAC) 14U Girls and a student at Kilbride School was recognized with the OVA Award of Excellence medal awarded annually to one team member at the Provincial Championships.

Briana was recognized for her on and off court leadership, playing performance and sportsmanship.

The MAC 14U girl’s team was seeded 11th going in Division 1 of the provincial finals in Waterloo on the weekend and finished ninth overall in Division 1.

MAC finished fourth in its pool and in the cross overs fought back to defeat the Niagara Rapids Black, Etobicoke Titans and the Cobourg Breakers 2-0 games each. MAC lost to the Georgetown Impact in the quarter finals finishing ninth overall.

The team is coached by Siobhan Mondesire and Greg Elvikis of Ancaster.

Team athletes include: Stoney Creek’s Hayley Genovy, Brittany Vanderlaan, Danielle Balasz; Ancaster’s Mackenzie Kool, Bianca Brown, and Regan Russell; Oakville’s Mila Krunic; Dundas’s Nicole Gwiazdowicz; Binbrook’s Victoria Golebiowski; Mount Hope’s Michelle Walker; Hamilton’s Madison Ertsinian and Katiana Pare; and Layard.
