Vegh honoured for on-court, off-court example

vegh_jThe Hamilton Mountain Athletic Club’s Jenn Vegh was recognized at the Ontario Volleyball Association’s 16-Under Provincial Championships. Vegh, a student at Westmount Secondary School, was spotlighted with the presentation of the OVA Award of Excellence medal awarded annually to one team member at the championships.

She was honoured for her on and off court leadership, playing performance, and sportsmanship.

Meanwhile, the MAC 16U girls finished second, winning the Silver medal in their Division 2 Tier 1 class.

MAC finished third in its pool and reseeded into the power pools where the team lost to DRVC Orange, 2-0, defeated the Brant Tornadoes, 2-1, lost to the ACTS Elites, 2-0, and defeated the Clarington Grizzlies, 2-0, to advance to the top 10 round.

In the quarter finals, MAC came up with a strong performance, defeating DRVC Orange, 25-19, 25-18, and the Orillia Suns, 25-20, 25-16, in the semi finals.

Facing the North Bay Wildcats in the final, MAC battled to a close 26-24, 25-16 defeat to take home the Silver medal.

The MAC 16U team is coached by Meghan Boyle and Geoff Reiner of Ancaster. Team athletes include: Vegh; Alyssa Mason, Hamilton; Maddy Szlafarski, Burlington; Alex Rocca, Ancaster; Kayleigh Mahony, Ancaster; Sarah Mclaughlin, Ancaster; Victoria Ho, Hamilton; Rochelle Helmer, Oakville.
