Anderer gives 10-pin history another record

The City Tenpin League at Skyway Lanes is Canada’s oldest sanctioned league at 107 years. It took 95 years before Dave Clark fired a 300 for the league’s first perfect game.

Dave Peacock, Mike Ricker, Bill Lishinski, and Tim Enoksen followed with 300 games of their own. Now, finally after 107 years, there has been an 800-plus triple as Mick Anderer’s 223 first game gave no indication what was to come. Game two saw Anderer, 39, start with 11 strikes before an 8-10 split left him with a 298. Usually after a big game, there is a let down, but not for Anderer. Again he started with 11 strikes, but this time all 10 pins fell for the perfect 300 game, and his record setting 821 triple.

Mick also competes at Burlington Bowl and last season fired a 760 triple and 288 single in City action.

With the ace, he became a member of the exclusive father-son 300 club as his dad, Mike, tasted perfection 16 years ago at Skyway. Mike no longer bowls and is living in Northern Ontario.

The other six families are the Baileys, Leggs, Lewises, Olivers, Russells and Curleys.

The 298-300 back-to-back effort has been done once before – Pat Desjardins at Prime Time Bowling with 189, 298 and 300 for 787 in October 2007. Mick Anderer has another 298 game at Hamilton Mountain Bowl when he again left up a split, the 4-9 after 11 strikes.

Earlier this season, and at Skyway, Brent Andrecyk also left up the 8-10 split for a 298 game.

Two more tries for perfection came up one pin short as Matt Lewis and Chris King both threw 299s at Skyway. Lewis had a 961 (195, 299, 234, 233) and King had a 980 (227, 258, 194, 299).

No single pin left up for 20-year-old Josh Colwell at Star Lanes in Brantford as he became the first Star Lanes 800 shooter with games of 266, 243 and 300 for an 809. With most leagues finished, the 300 count is up to 29 and the 800 count stands at six.

Splitsville Centre had Marg Thompson blast a 687 triple and 288 single and Claude Pinchette scored a 658 with a 289 single. Super singles by lower average bowlers included Janice Scott and Matt Mamone (235), Sharon Milburn (224), and Wendy Mingo, a plus 74 at 201.

At Burlington Bowl, Bella Howell was plus 130 with games of 143, 191 and 111 for a 445. In Skyway junior play, Chelsea King hit for 624, Ben Konyi posted a 573 (223), Billy Craig rolled 573 (201, 201), Shawn Labinski was plus 61 at 167, and Ryan Wells was plus 51 at 158.

HAMILTON TENPIN TRIVIA: Mike Ellis in 2008, and Mick Anderer this year, both threw 300 games on Monday nights at Skyway Lanes in the last game of the season. In 1965, Bill Bailey rolled his highest game ever, a 269 in the last game of the season. Dave Clark and Gary Reid both started with 10 strikes for unusual 282 games at Skyway Lanes.
