The Bantam AAA Cardinals improved their Intercounty Baseball League record to 3-0 after hosting the Stratford Indians in their 2010 home opener on Wednesday (May 12).
The Cards started strong with two runs in the bottom of the first inning, highlighted by Jake Osborne’s run-batted-in double. Despite Hamilton starter Troy Valeriano’s best efforts, shoddy fielding and mental mistakes allowed Stratford to take a 3-2 lead and the Indians continued to tack on runs in the third and fourth innings to lead 7-2 going into the bottom of the fourth.
Perhaps embarrassed by their poor play, Hamilton’s first seven hitters reached base en route to an eight-run inning, obtaining a lead they would never relinquish in the 12-7 victory.
Cards reliever Trevor Ferri picked up the win for Hamilton and Mitch Gardiner tossed two innings for the save. Hamilton’s lineup depth was evident as Marcus Dicenzo, Adam Rossit, Jake Osborne and Clayton Inrig each drove in two runs and Mitch Gardiner reached base in all four plate appearances.
Matt Humble and Robbie White also had an RBI each for the Cardinals.
Hamilton’s next game is Wednesday (May 19) at Heritage Green at 7 p.m. when they are hosts to the Guelph Royals.
