Colterjohn, teammates tune up for water polo


PINECREST, Florida – Canada’s men’s and women’s water polo teams enjoyed an easy start to the Junior Pan American Cup this week.

The Canadian women played twice beating Puerto Rico 20-1 and Trinidad and Tobago 23-2. Hamilton’s Nicola Colterjohn, of the Hamilton Aquatic Club, is a member of the team. There are seven countries in the women’s tournament: Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Trinidad and Tobago, the U.S., and Venezuela.

The men’s team meanwhile hammered Netherlands Antilles by an astronomical 29-4.

There are 10 countries in the men’s competition. Canada is in pool B with Brazil, Netherlands Antilles, Mexico and Venezuela. Pool A teams are Argentina, Colombia, Puerto Rico, Trinidad and the U.S. Canada plays three more round robin matches.

The quarterfinals go Aug. 14, the semis Aug. 15 and the final Aug. 16.
