Houghting, Jennison give Knights perfect weekend

Niagara_Knights_logoThe Niagara Knights scored two goals this past weekend and that was enough for two road victories in Ontario Colleges Athletic Association women’s soccer.

To kick-start the OCAA regular season, the Knights secured a 1-0 victory over host Lambton (0-1-0) on Saturday. First-year forward Melanie Houghting (Welland) scored the lone marker of the game.

Niagara visited St. Clair (0-1-0) on Sunday and earned a second 1-0 win. First-year forward Erin Jennison (Grimsby) scored the goal.

It’s a great start for a Niagara program that posted a 3-7-2 record last season. The Knights go for their third straight victory when Redeemer visits from Ancaster on Saturday.

In other play, Algonquin blanked Cambrian, 6-0 on Saturday; La Cite and Cambrian tied 1-1 on Sunday; and Durham blanked Centennial, 4-0.
