Hamilton defeated the Binghamton Senators 3-2 on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 2) in the Bulldogs second pre-season game leading up to the start of the of the 2010-11 American Hockey League schedule. David Desharnais led the Bulldogs to victory with two goals at Joe Byrne Memorial Stadium in Grand Falls-Windsor, Newfoundland.
Hamilton is now 2-0 in the pre-season.
The Bulldogs opened the scoring at 12:08 of the first period. Olivier Fortier sent a pass to Gabriel Dumont, who was positioned in the high slot and sent a one-timer past goaltender Barry Brust.
The Senators tied the game at 8:51 of the second stanza. Roman Wick carried the puck over the Bulldogs’ blue line before snapping a shot on net that beat netminder Peter Delmas.
Desharnais gave the ‘Dogs a 2-1 lead 32 seconds into the third period. Aaron Palushaj dished the puck to Desharnais, who was located to the side of the net. Desharnais drove to the net and shovelled the puck across the goal line.
It was Desharnais again at 4:44 and Hamilton was up 3-1.
Former Bulldog Andre Benoit cut Hamilton’s lead to one at 5:15 of the final frame. Benoit received the puck from Erik Condra, while positioned in the high slot. Benoit wristed a shot from the point that travelled through traffic in front of the net before beating Delmas over the glove.
Each team had 25 shots on net before a crowd of 1,350.
The ‘Dogs will host the Senators for their final pre-season game on Sunday (Oct. 3 at 12:30 p.m. EST in St. John’s, Newfoundland. The game can be heard on 820 CHAM.
