Important weekend coming up for McCoys

Four games are left to be played this coming weekend before the Christmas break, and the Dundas Real McCoys are involved in two of them, bookends to the Major League Hockey action.

Norwood Vipers come to Dundas on Friday (Dec. 17). Game time is 7:45 p.m. in the JL Grightmire Arena, and the two clubs play a return engagement in the Asphode-Norwood Arena on Sunday (Dec. 19) at 7 p.m.

Dundas currently sits two points out of second spot with 11 points and a game in hand on Norwood. In other action, Whitby Dunlops play in Brantford against the Blast on Friday, and then play the second game of this home-and-home set the following night in Whitby’s Iroquois Arena.

This past Sunday, the Dundas squad had their season’s lone game in Copps Coliseum against the Orillia Tundra cancelled when the Hamilton Bulldogs and the Bulldogs Foundation, in association with the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, Walter Gretzky and Hamilton Minor Hockey Association, held their third annual Skate with the Bulldogs fund raising event.

Sunday’s game against Orillia has been postponed to Sunday, Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. in the Grightmire Arena.

The Robertson Cup champions have their annual December Food Drive well underway, and need your support to make it a genuine success.

The McCoys have been collecting, and will be delivering, donated foodstuffs to the local Salvation Army chapter. The Real McCoys request everyone to assist in this annual incentive to help local families over the Christmas Season.

“This is a time of year when we make a special effort to try and assist in the community as much as we can. We have events planned to do this, and we look forward to support from the community as we try to make a difference,” said the McCoys’ general manager, Don Robertson

December also marks the return of the McCoys annual Scotia Bank Teddy Bear Toss. Fans are invited to bring a stuffed toy to the rink, and throw it on the ice when the McCoys score their first goal of the game on Friday (Dec. 17) against Norwood. Game time is 7:45 p.m. Santa Claus will also make his annual visit to the Grightmire that night.
