Lake Erie Monsters snap Bulldogs six-game streak

The Hamilton Bulldogs were defeated by the Lake Erie Monsters 2-1 at Copps Coliseum on Thursday night. Mark Olver provided the go-ahead-goal in the third period to seal the victory for Lake Erie, snapping the ‘Dogs six-game winning streak.

The Monsters took a 1-0 lead at 16:34 of the opening frame. Justin Mercier intercepted a Bulldogs passing attempt while in front of the net. Mercier proceeded to fire a shot that beat Hamilton starting goaltender Curtis Sanford over the right arm.

The ‘Dogs tied the game at 11:44 of the second stanza. Dany Masse sent the puck to the right point, where Gabriel Dumont was stationed. Dumont blasted a one-time shot that deflected off the stick of a Monsters’ player and over the blocker of Lake Erie starting goaltender John Grahame.

Olver gave the Monsters a 2-1 lead at 9:25 of the final frame. Kevin Montgomery sent the puck along the blue line to Joel Chouinard, who blasted a shot towards the net. While in front of the net, Olver tipped the puck past Sanford and across the goal line.

The Bulldogs will play the second game of a two-game mini-series with Lake Erie when they travel to Cleveland to battle the Monsters on Saturday, January 29th at 7:30 p.m. All regular season Hamilton Bulldogs broadcasts on AM 820 CHAM will begin with a pre-game show 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start time.
