The McMaster women’s volleyball team continued their win streak on Friday against the defending OUA champions, the Toronto Varsity Blues. The Marauders took down the Blues in fours set (25-18, 18-25, 25-22, 25-17).
The Marauders started off quick with kills from multiple players including graduating players Larissa Puhach (Burlington, Ont.) and Sarah Kiernan (Hamilton, Ont.). The Blues had a slow start as the Marauders took the set 25-18.
In the second set the Blues finally showed some life as the Marauders were neck and neck with the Blues coming out of the second technical timeout of the match. The Blues pulled away with serves from Karlee Diesing (Coquitlam, B.C.) and the Blues took the second set by the same margin as the first, 25-18.
In the third, both teams continued to make mistakes as the teams battled to win the important third set of the match. Digs from Megan Nederveen (Dundas, Ont.) and sets from Amanda Weldon (Hamilton, Ont.) kept McMaster in the match and the Marauders won the third, 25-22.
In the fourth the Marauders looked comfortable on the court as serves from Lauren Skelly (Whitby, Ont.) and kills from Shannon McRobert (Whitby, Ont.) would help McMaster in the fourth and take the game.
Fifth-year vet Puhach had ten kills and 15 digs for the Marauders in the win. Kiernan contributed eight kills in the win.
Diesing had a game-high 13 kills and Sarah Chapin (Georgetown, Ont.) had ten more for the Blues
The Marauders now advance to a record of 15-1 and will travel to Guelph, Ont. tomorrow to take on division rivals, the Gryphons.
