Strong start for Mohawk at Badminton Championship


The Mohawk men’s doubles team had a good opening day (Feb. 4) at the OCAA West Regional Badminton Championships with Mohawk playing host.

Chris Hong and Mohammad Nazimuddin won three of their four matches. They downed Fanshawe, Seneca and St.Clair, and won the first set against Humber, but the Hawks rallied to take the next two sets in the best-of-three format.

In men’s singles, Pool ‘A,’ Mohawk’s Nicolaas Vangemert was 2-2 for the first day, beating Fanshawe and St. Clair, but losing to Humber and Seneca.

In other results:

Alicia Jenkins and Kien Tran of Mohawk were 1-3 in mixed doubles, their victory coming against Fanshawe.

Le Nguyen was 0-3 in men’s singles Pool ‘B.’

Courtney Ustrzycki was 0-4 in women’s singles ‘Pool ‘A.’
