Warriors send Meteors crashing

Six different players scored as the Stoney Creek Jr. B Warriors (20-16-5) defeated the Fort Erie Meteors (5-34-2) last weekend at Valley Park Arena. The 6-1 contest saw the Warriors outshoot their opponent, 39-19, and never trail during the contest.

The two teams traded powerplay goals in the first period. Stoney Creek’s Mike Casale scored his 17th from David Ruberto and Danny Carter at 7:41.

However, Fort Erie’s Nik Passero would tie the contest on the power play prior to the end of the first period.

Stoney Creek would score twice more in the second period. Steven Mueller popped his second goal of the year unassisted at 14:22. Just three minutes later Mark Silvestri scored his fourth from Luke Nogard and Carter. Carter would complete his three-point night scoring his eighth goal of the season on the powerplay at 11:06 of the final period unassisted.

At 15:57 Marcus Ruberto fired home his 14th of the year with Casale assisting.

And finally, Nogard scored his 14th to complete the scoring. Casale’s assist was his third point of the night while David Ruberto had a two-point outing.

Warrior goaltender Matt Sagrott stopped 18 of 19 shots for his eighth win of the year.

The Warriors are home to St. Catharines on Saturday (Feb. 5) at the Valley Park Arena at 7:30 p.m.
