Phantoms shutout Bulldogs

Former Bulldog Dan Jancevski had a pair of assists as he and the Adirondack Phantoms blanked Hamilton, 4-0, in American Hockey League action on Saturday (Feb. 6)

Denis Hamel scored a hat trick for the visitors to Copps Coliseum where 3,430 spectators were on hand. Michael Leighton made 20 saves for the shutout.

Adirondack had 19 shots on net.

The Phantoms got on the scoreboard first at 3:11 of the opening stanza. Jancevski received the puck from Erik Gustafsson before blasting a shot towards the net. The puck bounced off the stick of a Bulldogs player and to the left side of the net where Mike Testwuide whacked the loose puck past goaltender Curtis Sanford.

Adirondack took a two goal lead at 8:06. Jancevski fed the puck to Hamel, who carried it into the Hamilton zone along the right side. Hamel slapped a shot from the top of the right faceoff circle that beat Sanford on the glove side.

Hamel scored his second goal of the game at 14:07 of the middle frame. He intercepted a passing attempt from the ‘Dogs while positioned in the slot and released a wrist shot that sailed over the glove of Sanford and into the net. Hamel completed the hat trick at 16:14 of the third period with an empty net goal.

The Bulldogs host the Abbotsford Heat for a 7 p.m. game on Tuesday, Feb. 8 at Copps Coliseum. All regular season Hamilton Bulldogs broadcasts on AM 820 CHAM will begin with a pre-game show 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start time.
