Mac’s track and field tests fields at Meyo Invitational, York Open

The McMaster Marauders men’s and women’s track and field teams competed against some of the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s best at the Meyo Invitational Saturday at the Loftus Sports Center in Notre Dame, Ind.

Jimmy Tat (Oakville) was the Marauders best finisher, placing fourth in the men’s 500 metre with a time of 1:04:84.

Kim Volterman (Hamilton) was Mac’s top female runner, finishing eighth in the 1,000m. Victoria Coates (Newmarket) and Sara Giovannetti (Mississauga) finished 10th and 11th respectively, in the women’s 3,000m seeded race. Coates is currently ranked second in the event in Canadian Interuniversity Sports with Giovannetti close behind in fourth.

The Meyo Invitational welcomed 36 men’s and 47 women’s team to the Loftus Sports Center.

It was a busy weekend for the track team, as they also competed at the 40th Annual York University Open. A variety of Marauders ran personal bests, including Sarah Haliburton (Richmond Hill) who finished first in the women’s 1,000m.

The Marauders return to action on Feb. 11-12 at the University of Windsor Team Challenge.
