Mohawk downed Sault College in two different sports at the Fennell Gymnasium Friday (Feb. 11).
The Mountaineers ran their record to 17-4 in women’s volleyball with 25-13, 25-13, 25-7 sweep of the Cougars. Andrea Garbaty led Mohawk with six kills, three service aces and four stuff blocks. Julie Gagnon had six kills and five aces and Kellie Crnic contributed seven aces and one block.
Head coach Sean Pellow used 13 players in the game against the Sault, which is now 1-20. Jennifer Knowles and Melanie Patenaude were rested because of injuries.
Meanwhile, the Mohawk men’s basketball team jumped off to a 43-26 half time lead and despite a sloppy second half, managed to beat the Sault Cougars 62-57. Tanner Lane had 18 points for the Mountaineers, while Taylor Dowhaniuk scored 11 and Alex Reis, 9. The Cougars record fell to 3-13.
Saturday both basketball teams are on the court against the other college visiting from Sault Ste. Marie, the Algoma Thunderbirds. The women will be up first at 6:00 pm, and then the men play at 8:00 pm.
