After eight tries McCoys win at home

Dundas Real McCoys, paced by Shawn Shewchuk and Mike Amodeo’s two-goal performances, captured its first home game of the 2010-11 Major League Hockey season by defeating the Brantford Blast, 8-4, last Friday (Feb. 11) in the JL Grightmire Arena.

The win ended the Real McCoys eight-game home winless streak, and moved them firmly into second place in the standings by four points over their long-time Brantford rivals with a record of 10 wins, seven losses, three overtime losses and a shootout loss.

Brantford with a 10-11 record fell to fourth place when the Vipers downed the Whitby Dunlops, 7-6, two days later at Norwood.

“We are too good a hockey club not to win at home, but thank goodness that monkey is off our backs,” said general manager Don Robertson. “It was a pretty good hockey game as we out worked them, and our goalie shut them down, again.”

Friday night (Feb. 18) the two clubs will pick things up from where they left off last Friday. Game time is set for 7:45 p.m. at the Grightmire again.

Missing from the Brantford lineup last Friday was goalkeeper Brett Leggat who had signed a professional tryout contract to be the backup goaltender for the Connecticut Whale of the American Hockey League in their match with the Hamilton Bulldogs in Copps Coliseum. Connecticut won 3-2.

In addition to Shewchuk and Amodeo, Dundas got single goals from Ryan Christie, Chris McLean, Omar Ennaffati, and TJ Sakaluk. The Blast goals went to Kyle McNeil, Mike Ward, Greg Bullock, and Jon Jankus.
