Marauders earn home-court advantage in volleyball

The McMaster men’s volleyball team completed the Ontario University Athletics 2011 regular season with another win on the road, downing the RMC Paladins in five sets, 26-28, 21-25, 25-19, 25-19, 15-6 on Sunday (Feb. 13).

The Marauders will now host an OUA quarterfinal game against the Laurier Golden Hawks on Saturday, Feb. 19.

After a long first set loss and another loss in the second, the Marauders had to rally the troops to take down the Paladins to secure second place in the OUA.

In the third and fourth sets, McMaster finally began playing to their potential and pushed through the fifth to earn the last win of the regular season.

Middles came up for the Marauders in the match as Tyson Alexander recorded 14 kills, two aces and six blocks and Tyler Santoni (Kingston) had another nine kills and six blocks for McMaster in the win.

RMC’s Paul Demers (Manitowaning) had 21 kills for the Paladins and teammate Sean Vanthournout (Sakville, N.B.) had another 15 points (nine kills, four blocks) in RMC’s last game of the year.
