Coates sheds illness to wear silver

Just two weeks after missing the Ontario University Athletics conference championship because of illness, McMaster Marauder distance runner Victoria Coates captured silver in the 3,000 metre race in a time of 9:38.52 on Friday (March 11) at the Canadian Interuniversity Sport championship.

OUA silver medallist Sara Giovannetti placed sixth in the 3,000m behind Coates. The women’s 4 x 800m relay team comprised of Giovannetti, Sarah Haliburton, Lisa Giles, and Kim Volterman also placed sixth.

For the McMaster men, the 4 x 200m relay team finished eighth.

The Windsor Lancers have taken control of the 2011 CIS Mondo Track and Field Championships at Uniestrie Hall on the campus of the Université de Sherbrooke. The Lancer women have racked up 93.5 points and hold a commanding 37.5 point lead over the second place University of Guelph Gryphons after the second day of competition while the men have scored 71 points and lead Gryphons by 10 heading into the final day of the meet.
