Fat Cats ride McGovern’s arm to shutout T-Birds

OTTAWA – Matt McGovern struck out 13 Hamilton batters, en route to a complete game a three-hit shutout pacing the Ottawa Fat Cats to an 8-0 victory over the Thunderbirds.  Friday’s loss was Hamilton’s seventh straight and moves them two and a half games back of Burlington for seventh place with six games remaining in the regular Intercounty Baseball League season.

In the fourth, Hayes would once again score, this time on Ivan Cherwinski’s sacrifice fly to make it 3-0 for Ottawa. The Fat Cats would seal the victory by scoring five times in the bottom of the eighth.

Hamilton’s Adam Durfee and Graeme Carey each singled off of McGovern while Matt McGraw doubled in the top of the ninth for the Thunderbirds’ only hits of the game.
