They don’t call them the boys of summer for nothing. The conditions were challenging to say the least, but the Hamilton Cardinal Major Mosquito team showed that even after six long innings in the sweltering heat they could still pull off a last minute rally, defeating the Kitchener Panthers, 7-6, in Inter-County Baseball Association play.
Down 6-3 in the final frame and with one out, Ian Jordan would smack a double. Two batters later, Sean Pettener’s singled to score Jordan from second. Steven Lemay base hit and was plated by Josh Tee’s double to make the score 6-5. Then with two men on and two away, George Tsiflikiotis drove the final nail into the Panthers’ coffin with a two RBI single for the walk off win.
Pettener and Tsiflikiotis were 2/3 with two RBIs each and Josh Tee was 1/2 with one RBI. Cameron McLeod was 2/3, Jared Hill, Tommy Thompson and Steven Lemay were 1/3. Ian Jordan was 1/2.
Starting Pettener pitched four innings allowing three runs on six hits, striking out six and walking two. Reliever Steven Lemay pitched two innings allowing three runs on eight hits and striking out one.
