Royals can’t chase away Mosquitos

The Hamilton Cardinals Major Mosquito T1 team took advantage of a Guelph squad that clearly was not engaged in this matchup.

The pitcher-catcher duo of Sean Pettener and Tommy Thompson toyed with every Guelph batter in the Inter-County Baseball Association game en route to a 13-1 victory. Working every corner of the strike zone and holding the Royals scoreless over their four innings of work, the duo combined for eight strikeouts and no walks.

Meanwhile the offence was lighting it up. Ian Jordan (2/4) had 2 RBI on a single and a fifth inning home run. Pettener (2/3) also had 2 RBI on a single and a triple in the Cardinals seven run fifth inning.

Sam Coons, Josh Tee and Thompson were also 2-for-3 with 1 RBI each, while George Tsiflikiotis, Steven Lemay, and Ben Woodhouse each recorded one hit and one RBI. Joel Wallace was 1/3 and Cameron McLeod was 2/4.

Tee took over for Pettener in the fifth, giving up the only Guelph run on two hits and two strikeouts.
