Superb defence can’t save Minor Bantam Cards

Through extreme heat conditions Hamilton and Kitchener played a close Minor Bantam Inter-County Baseball Association game. And although the Cardinals out-hit their opponent (9-8) they came up short and lost 4-1.

The story of the night for the Cardinals was their solid defense. Noah Skirrow and Kenneth Coleman made a number of great defensive plays from the left side at third base and short stop. Other notable plays came from Alex Michalak – making an outstanding fly ball catch in foul territory reaching over the fence to ensure the out – a key play with runners on base in scoring position.

Joseph McLeod also made a fantastic catch in deep right centre field holding the runner at third base – preventing a run.

Duties on the mound came from Brendan Watson (four hits, two walks, one run in three innings); Colin Harold (two hits, two runs, two errors in two innings) and Jordan McNeil (two hits, one run, one strikeout in two innings).
