Giants cut down by Cardinals

Hamilton’s Major Mosquitos took an Inter-County Baseball Association doubleheader, toppling the Simcoe Giants 12-8 in the opener and 14-0 in a rain-shortened nightcap.

Reliever Jordan Simpson took the mound for the next two innings and allowed two runs from three hits and four walks while fanning 5. Pettener would come in to work the last three innings, allowing two runs on five hits, two strikeouts and a pair of walks.

In Game 2, the skies opened up to a steady rain, and the Hamilton Cardinals bats opened up to the Giants pitching.

Hamilton scored 14 runs over 2 1/3 innings for the win.

Leading with three RBI were Pettener (2/2) and Simpson (1/2). Ian Jordan (1/2) batted in two RBI while single RBIs were cashed in by Tommy Thompson (2/2), Hill (1/1), Ben Woodhouse (0/2), Tsiflikiotis (1/1) and Pietron (1/1).

Starting pitcher Ian Jordan would go the distance pitching a no-hitter, walking one and striking out two.
