Disappointing start to Mohawk women’s fastball

The Mohawk women’s fastball team suffered from a lack of offense to open their Ontario Colleges Athletic Association schedule as the Seneca Sting hurled a pair of three-hitters to defeat the Mountaineers 4-1 and 5-2 in North York Saturday (Sep. 24).

“Our defense was good and our pitchers kept us in the games, but our bats weren’t there,” said Mountaineers’ head coach Brian Weller.

Nicole Leitch had two of Mohawk’s hits in the opener and scored their lone run. Stephanie Duffin worked the full seven innings, but was tagged with the defeat.

In the second game, Mallory Martin also went the route, but suffered the loss.

The Mountaineers next action is Tuesday September 27 when they visit Conestoga. The games will start at 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm and will be played at Riverside Park in Cambridge.

Mohawk’s first home games are Thursday September 29 when the St. Clair Saints visit Mohawk Sports Park for 5:30 pm and 7:30 pm starts.
