Mohawk prepares at Niagara College Golf Tournament

Mohawk will send a team of five men and one alternate to the Niagara College Invitational Golf Tournament at the LochNess Links Golf Course in Welland on Wednesday (Sep. 28)

The team will include Jair Saenz, a one-handicap player who competed for two years of NCAA Division 1 golf with the University of Central Florida.

Also on the team is returnee Brandon Taylor, as well as Curtis Henshaw, Andrew Horner, Connor Wilks and Jordan McNair.

The team has been practicing and playing for a few weeks now in preparation for this event, said new coach Deborah Lee Eldridge, the former LPGA touring pro. “They have played rounds on two very demanding golf courses to help their focus, endurance and course management skills.  LochNess Links is a modern links style course that puts a premium on keeping the ball in the fairway. The courses we have practiced on this month also were very penalizing for shots missing the fairway, so the team should be ready to face this challenge.”

With the OCAA Championship being held next week, the coach feels  the timing for this tournament is wonderful.  “(This event) will help the players get in the right mindset for competition and test their tournament nerves.  It will act as a perfect preparation step for next week.”
