The Mohawk Men’s basketball team won the 17th Annual Viking Men’s Basketball Invitational Tournament at St. Lawrence College in Kingston on Sunday (Oct. 23).
On Friday (Oct 21), the tournament tipped off in style with the Mountaineers downing Fleming College of Peterborough 70-49. Manny Campbell scored 22 points and Andrew Cicuttini had 16.
On Saturday, the men topped the century mark in points with a 111-83 romp over the Georgian Grizzlies of Barrie, to reach the championship game. Aminu Bello scored 26 points and Andrew Cicuttin notched 21.
The Mountaineers faced George Brown Huskies of Toronto in Sunday’s title match.
Tournament MVP Manny Campbell scored 25 points to pace the Mohawk Mountaineers to a 69-55 victory over the Huskies in the final. Andrew Cicuttini scored 15 points and had 17 rebounds, while Aminu Bello added 12 points for Mohawk in the championship game.
Campbell averaged 21 points in all three of the Mountaineer’s games at the event. Cicuttini and Taylor Dowhaniuk were named to the tournament all-star team.
Mountaineers’ head coach Brian was obviously happy with the outcome. “We are very pleased with the three wins and the team played very unselfishly. We’re excited by the progress.”
