Oakville’s Sinead Russell and Tobias Oriwol of Toronto each won two gold medals and set one meet record each to open the Canada Cup swimming competition.
Russell posted victories in the first two women’s races on Nov. 25. She clocked 55.73 seconds in the 100 freestyle finishing ahead of Brittany MacLean and Lauren Earp both of Etobicoke. A few minutes later she captured the 200 backstroke in a meet mark 2:10.97 with MacLean second and Geneviève Cantin of Quebec City third.
At the world championships this past summer, the 18-year-old Russell made a big impact breaking two Canadian records and reaching a final.
In the 400 individual medley: Annie Harrison of Oakville came in third.
In the 4X100 freestyle relay the Oakville Dolphins Swim Club was second.
