Brennan, Coolsaet in the running for Athletics Canada awards

Waterdown’s Christian Brennan is a finalist in four of Athletics Canada 2011 annual awards. The winners of the 12 categories, which have three contenders, will be unveiled on Wednesday (Dec. 21), and will be honoured at a banquet following the 2012 Canadian Championships in Calgary, Alta. The finalists and winners are chosen by Athletics Canada’s Awards Committee from the nominee pool as put forward by the membership.

Brennan is in the running for the Jack W. Davies Trophy as Overall Athlete of the Year. She set the Canadian Youth record in the 200m and 400m events and earned two Silver medals at the IAAF World Youth Championships.

Also a finalist for the award is three-time marathon winner and 2011 Canadian champion Reid Coolsaet of Hamilton. He also registered an Olympic A Standard.

Brennan also made the short list for the Cal D. Bricker Memorial Trophy as the Single Outstanding Performance of the Year and for the Phil A. Edwards Trophy as Track Athlete of the Year.

She completed her quad by making the finalists’ list for the Myrtle Cook Trophy as Youth Athlete of the Year.

Coolsaet is a double nominee by making the finalist’s for the Fred Begley Memorial Trophy as the Off-Track Athlete of the Year.
