Wins elude Hamilton’s water polo teams

Hamilton AC is still looking for success in the pool in Major League Water Polo play. The men’s team lost its season opener against the Toronto Mavericks, 13-7, while the women dropped their second game, 7-2, to the Mavericks on Jan. 14.

The men get a chance to even the score with the Mavericks when they meet again on Sunday (Jan. 22) in Etobicoke. Both AC teams will be in action the following night in Hamilton when the Toronto Golden Jets visit for a twin bill in their season openers.

Last weekend, Derek Sardo had three goals for Hamilton in the losing cause. Liam McConnell, Jack Tang, Jeff Brown, and Jim Carr had Hamilton’s other goals. Hamilton trailed 2-1 after the first quarter, 5-2 after two periods and 8-4 going into the final quarter when the Mavericks scored five goals.

In the women’s game Tahnee Park and Emily Bidinosti provided the offence for Hamilton. AC found themselves in a 1-1 tie after the first period but trailing 3-1 to end the half. The Mavericks added two more goals in each of the last two quarters.
