Marauders leave Thunder Bay empty handed


Thunder Bay – The McMaster men’s basketball team dropped its second game of the weekend, losing 91-71 to the Lakehead Thunderwolves on Saturday (Jan. 21).

The Marauders led the defending Ontario University Athletics champions 20-13 after the first quarter. But in the second quarter Lakehead began taking control of the game, outscoring the Marauders 25-21.

The three-point margin McMaster took into the start of the third period quickly vanished when the Thunderwolves dropped in 34 points.

Captain Victor Raso scored a team-high 17 points for the Marauders. Joining him in double digits were Cam Michaud (15), and Nathan McCarthy (12). Rookie point guard Adam Presutti recorded eight assists.

For Lakehead, Venzal Russell scored an outstanding 28 points in the game. Ryan Thomson had 18 points and Ben Johnson scored another 17. Yoosrie Salhia was the only player to earn a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

The Marauders will host the Guelph Gryphons on Wednesday (Jan. 25) at 8 p.m. at Burridge Gymnasium.
