Marauders find 27 medals in OUA pool

Sudbury – The McMaster Marauders grabbed 10 more medals on the final day of competition to finish the Ontario University Athletics swimming championships with 27 medals, including eight golds.

Cam Bailey’s finale was good for three golds in the 200 free at 1:49.60, the 400 IM at 4:24.10 and as part of the men’s 400 free relay. Also on the gold medal team, that swam the event in 3:19.88, were Michael MacDonald, Matthew Vogelzang, and Konrad Bald.

Bald also took more hardware home on the last day, including a gold medal in the 50 breaststroke with a time of 28.40. MacDonald was also successful, winning a bronze in the 200 free at 1:51.07. The last member of the team, Vogelzang, also won a bronze in the 100 fly at 55.24.

Ben Stubbs finished just behind teammate Bailey in the 400 IM, winning a silver with a time of 4:24.93.

For the women, they collected a silver medal in 200 medley relay. The team of Natasha Strass-Hundal, Emily Fung, Alexandra VanOmmen, and Sarah Taylor, finished the race in 1:56.65.

The women’s 400 free relay team, made up of Fung, Taylor, Meg Sloan and Jessica McKenzie, also made a splash coming up with bronze with a time of 3:53.33.

VanOmmen won another silver in the 50 breaststroke at 33.36.
