Marauders’ win sets up crucial game

London – A 90-79 decision over the Western Mustangs gave the McMaster Marauders their seventh straight win in Ontario University Athletics men’s basketball play on Wednesday (Feb. 15).

The road win left McMaster with a 16-3 record and sets the stage for Saturday’s final game of the regular season against West Division rivals, the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks, who also have a 16-3 record. On the line will be a first-round bye and a spot in the OUA quarterfinals. Gametime on Mac’s Burridge court is 2 p.m.

On Wednesday five Marauders hit double digits with Nathan Pelech grabbing the double-double on the night. The teams were tied at 19 apiece to end the first quarter but the Marauders went into the dressing room at the half with a four point advantage.

The Marauders proceeded to outscore the Mustangs in the next two quarters for the win.

Cam Michaud was McMaster’s high scorer with 23 points and eight rebounds. Rookie Aaron Redpath scored 18 more for the Marauders and was accompanied by Pelech’s 13 points and 10 rebounds. Taylor Black and Adam Presutti both scored 11 more in the win.

For Western, Ryan Barbeau scored a game-high 34 points. Peter Scholtes added 13 and Quinn Henderson connected for 10 more in the Mustangs’ loss.
