LONDON – McMaster skaters picked up two silver medals during the recent Ontario University Athletics figure skating championship.
Eric Ritter placed second to former Canadian champion and Olympic competitor (in ice dance) Paul Poirier (Unionville) in men’s open freeskate for Toronto. Guelph’s Francis Adamo (Guelph) was third.
Competing in the Senior Similar Pairs, Marauders Steph Walden and Diane D’Alessandro won silver behind Toronto’s Tori Prouse and Tiffany Tse. The Brock duo of Megs LeBeouf and Melanie Peckham were third.
In the gold freeskate event, Hamilton’s Elizabeth Liao, skating for Queen’s, won the silver medal while her twin sister and first-year Western Mustang, Christine, earned the bronze medal.
Western’s Lauren Malott of Waterdown and her partner Carly Smith of Whitby, placed first in senior silver similar dance field and made the OUA all-star team.
The Western Mustangs skated their way to their second straight overall OUA figure skating championship, finishing the two-day event with 92 points. McMaster was sixth with 23 points and Brock was eighth with 14 points.
