Montreal – Lindsay Carson broke the McMaster record in the 3000m race when the Marauders’ track team competed at the McGill University Open on the weekend.
Carson ran the event in 9:40.81 to take the silver medal.
The previous record was set by Muffy McLeod in 1984. Carson is now ranked third in Canadian Interuniversity Sports in the 3000m and first in the 1500m.
Carson transferred from the University of Guelph and sat out a year of competition.
Rookie Chelsea MacKinnon was also successful over the weekend. She won gold in the 1000m with a time of 2:53.00 to best the field by over four seconds. Teammates Sarah Wilson and Laura Morrison finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in that same race.
Third-year Jessica Tat also took home some hardware for the Marauders, winning bronze in the 600m run with a personal best of 1:35.86.
Marauder Mike Percival earned a bronze in the 1000m. The veteran set a personal best in the race with a time of 2:35.12.
Thirteen men and thirteen women have qualified for the Ontario University Athletics’ championships at York University this upcoming weekend.
