Mac volleyball coach to lead Canada’s juniors

It will be a busy summer for McMaster men’s volleyball coach Dave Preston, who has been tabbed to serve as the head coach of Canada’s 2012 Junior Men’s National team.

The Junior National team is for players 19 and under.

Having just completed his 10th season as coach of the Marauders, Preston brings impressive credentials to his post with the Juniors. Under his guidance, McMaster has captured three Ontario University Athletics championships and qualified for five Canadian Interuniversity Sports national tournaments. He was named OUA and CIS Coach of the Year in 2008.

Preston also has extensive experience within the National Team program, and was an assistant coach on the 1999 Canadian Men’s Senior team that won the bronze medal at the Pan Am Games. He was also inducted into Volleyball Canada’s Hall of Fame.

The selection camp for the Junior National team will be held at the Volleyball Canada Training Centre in Gatineau, QC, from July 17-22. Once the team has been selected, it will continue to train in Gatineau in preparation for the Junior NOCECA championship tournament, being held in Colorado Springs, Colorado from Aug. 24 to Sept. 2.

NORCECA is the zone designation for North America, Central America, and Caribbean volleyball federations.
