Hamilton Minor Mosquitos lived up to their pesky name, overcoming a five-run deficit to defeat the Mississauga Twins, 7-6, to open their Central Ontario Baseball Association play.
The Twins took advantage of early errors by the Cardinals to lead 5-0 going into the fourth inning.
But Hamilton scored three runs in the fourth to narrow the count to 5-3. Four more runs in the fifth inning gave the Cards the lead for their win.
Hamilton’s starting pitcher Sawyer Smith went three-plus innings before being lifted for Nathan Gillis who finished the game.
The Twins scored their final run in the seventh inning. Gillis struck out the last Twins batter leaving the tying run on second base.
